Auto companies tend to be ahead of time with concepts that show how they envision the design of the next machines. Mercedes presented the model yesterday Vision EQXX, a spectacular and elegant electric sports car with a “futuristic” autonomy.
The truth is that the sports car breathes a classic air, but if the new concept stands out for something, it is because of what Mercedes has called ultra-efficiency throughout the car.
In data, and on paper, this translates into a vehicle that would reach 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) of autonomy. Consider, for example, that the EQS battery offers approximately 735 kilometers on a single charge, and the longest-range vehicle already on the road is the Lucid Air Dream edition with its 835-kilometer battery.
For this, and as explained by Mercedes, the energy consumption of the battery is only 10 kWh per 100 kilometers. Its energy density means that there is 100 kWh of energy, but only half the size of the EQS battery. The EQS uses more than 15 kWh per 100 kilometers. According to the house:
Trying to maintain efficient driving meant unique exterior design options. The model has a more aerodynamic shape than a soccer ball. But without ceasing to be elegant. Solar powered roof panels can add up to 25 kilometers of range and power car lights, infotainment system, and other features.
As for the front display, it was already impressive in the EQS lineup, but this concept takes the giant touchscreen to the next level. A 47.5-inch screen spanning the entire board with a resolution of 8K. For the map system there is a 3D navigation system.
By the way, the EQXX still uses Mercedes’ voice control system, but now a “layer” of artificial intelligence has been added to it. It has been implemented by working with a machine learning company and getting the car to use neuromorphic computing (“think more like a human to reduce energy consumption while executing commands,” they say).
Like all concepts, we will have to wait and see what part of what is described becomes a reality for the market, but it would not be the first time that Mercedes launched a new model practically identical to previous concepts. and this one promises a lot. [The Verge]
